A name

October 18th

They stand gathered around the stranger. They seem nervous, but also irritated that the party has suddenly changed their minds about letting him go unaccosted.

Ophelia presses the question again of what makes the stranger so dangerous, and they clarify that they are not, but the people looking for them may be. A bit more back and forth reveals nothing more, they insist their presence is dangerous. Finally, Ophelia yields and tells the stranger to get lost. With that settled, Eden directs the party’s focus back to the beast gnolls.

party easily dispatches them from a distance.

After the fight, Eden goes around ensuring everyone is healed. When he gets to V, the fighter moves his armor aside to allow Eden a closer look at his injury. It’s then that an unspoken topic comes to a head: V is not dead, but he isn’t quite as alive as the rest of them, it seems. He reveals when asked that he knows little about how he came to be in this condition, only that he woke up like this at the bottom of a lake.

What he does have, however, are two bracelets on his person. One he wore, and one he took from a nearby body, with the letters A and V on them respectively, hence where he got his name. Eden offers to hold the bracelets and glean what he can from them.

The memory he sees on the stranger’s bracelet is of them being persecuted, dragged against their will, reaching for someone who looks much like V. They are hanged in their last moments. In V’s memory, he is being persecuted as well and kept away from the stranger, and the memory ends as they are hanged.

Eden relays this to the party, and the memory sparks some recollection for V. But remembering is painful. It doesn’t bring him any closer to understanding.
